I love my blanket scarf! I bought it at an end-of-the-season sale for $10 I think, even though my mom swears she gave it to me. That’s ok, mom. I have received many great gifts from you, but this was not one of them. The price, however, isn’t the only thing I love about this scarf. Sure, I love the bright festive colors and ability to keep me extremely warm. But the thing I love most about this scarf is it’s versatility. Now don’t get me wrong, I certainly didn’t have anything on my mind when purchasing this blanket scarf other than to wear it nicely around my neck (once I figured out how to do that properly!). But once I had it in my possession, I noticed all the other ways that I could use this resourceful little (er, big) scarf! Read below to find out 5 uses for a blanket scarf (you may not have thought about!).
1. Scarf
I had to start with this one because so many of these beautiful scarves are sent to the coat closet to die because it’s owner hasn’t figured out how to wear it. I’m with you on this one. These jokers are huge, so a tutorial is a must! I know there are many ways to wear a blanket scarf, but I only wear it one way and this is how I wear it: Bring the corners together to make a giant triangle. Wrap it around your neck front to back. Cross the ends behind your neck and bring them back around towards the front. Tie the ends loosely underneath the point of the triangle in front. Adjust and fluff where necessary. 2. Tablecloth
As you may have seen in my post here for a DIY Christmas Table in 5 simple steps that a tablecloth is a great use for this blanket scarf. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if, at the designing table where they were trying to figure out what to name it, the name “tablecloth scarf” didn’t come to light once or twice. When using it on a bigger table, you may want to layer it on top of another tablecloth meant for that size, as shown in the first picture. On my little four-seater table in my kitchen, this fits just perfectly! You could also use it as a runner if it just doesn’t look right as the actual table cloth, as shown in the picture above.
3. Window Treatment
I must admit, I had to think about this one for a minute, but then I saw “that window”. You know the one. You walk by it every time racking your brain what to do with it. It looks fine by itself, but a treatment would be nice. You don’t want just any old treatment since it’s such a statement in the room, and they are. so. expensive! Enter blanket scarf. You can use it for a season, and buy a couple (for about $10 a piece) and spread the love to other windows in or around the room. Just drape it over the rod, gather in the middle with a band or hair tie, then add a bow.
4. Christmas Tree Skirt
I love Charlie Brown’s Christmas, and the act of swaddling the base of a tree with a blanket reminds me of such. If only Linus had a Tartan plaid blankie with fringe ends, imagine what that sad little tree would’ve looked like! I’m kidding, Mr. Schulz. Blue was, of course, the perfect color for that blanket. However, we can use the more festive blanket scarves for a tree skirt in our homes. And since they now come in so many different colors, surely we can find one that fits our Christmas decor!
5. Mantle Swag
I saved my favorite (non-traditional) use for last. As I was placing my blanket scarf all over my home, this was where I wanted to keep it (if only I didn’t wear it so much!). It tucked nicely, just behind the stocking hangers without any fuss! I may be in the market for a blanket scarf with a wintry color scheme to keep up here in the cooler winter months, once my Christmas decor is put up (you hear me, Mom? Now is your chance to get me that blanket scarf you always dreamed of–or dreamed you already had!). Blessings and Merry Christmas!
