How to Decorate After the Holidays

I don’t know about you, but I am usually the most inspired in the new year.  It’s just a great time to restart, refresh, and renew.  Many people are waking up earlier, starting up new exercise regimes or making use of that time for quiet meditation (or both!). Others still are working harder than any other time of the year to get a jump start on a new or existing business.  Still many are taking down Christmas and putting up new decor for the New Year.  That’s where my block this year has come in.  I am still sort of new to this “decorating for the season” mentality.  Usually I just put up my normal decor after Christmas has come down, but I want to do something new this year.  I want to decorate in a winter-y way and not look too “snowman”, but get away from the Christmas-y look.  I have done a little bit of perusing the inter-webs and found some fun ideas, but I still had to dig deep within me to think about what I really wanted.  And what I found was that I wanted to incorporate winter green with rustic, outdoor neutrals (think pinecones, evergreen, cut wood)  Hmmm, sounds familiar… So here are some of the things that my inspiration led me to do in my house.  Who knows?  Maybe you are having the same decorator’s block I had and are hopefully inspired by these images too!

Winter Decor for the New Year

Greenery, Rustic, and Neutrals

Winter Mantle Decor

For my mantle, I removed the red bows, stocking hangers and stockings, and added metallic candles with green trees. Burlap, evergreen, and pinecones are perfect for winter! I also removed tiny ornaments that hung on the wreath.

Winter Dining Room Decor

You know I love this shot of the dining room table and shelves that I posted about here. In the trough are pinecone clusters, metallic ribbon, and burlap wrapped white candles. (The burlap is actually tape I found at Walmart!)

I returned my blue plates to the shelf, and added mini pinecones around the necks of these glass milk bottles.

I changed out my boxwood wreaths with evergreen and pinecone wreaths. Perfect for Christmas AND Winter!

I hope these Winter Decor images bring you inspiration to go outdoors (bundle up) and bring a little bit of it in!

Happy New Year!
