I can hardly believe we are almost half way through the year already!  I have been busier than ever, now that I have been home full time.  What, whaaaa?? But it’s true.  I am certainly a busy body.  If you were with me when I wrote this post on my New Years Resolutions for 2018, then you know I had some lofty goals for this year.  I thought it would be fun to check in and see how I’m doing on those.  I guess this is also a good time to see what I still have to do to hit the goals that haven’t been checked off my list!

Here are the goals I set for myself at the beginning of the year.  I set them to be Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and with a Time set.

  1. Get Organized-get my desk area organized by the end of January
  2. Spend Less-build a sideboard for some much needed storage by April, to save on buying a new one
  3. Learn Something New-learn how to use my circular saw to build the projects mentioned above
  4. Lose Weight/Tone Up-Build 1x a week and get cardio in 3-5x per week
  5. Stress Less-do one thing for me a week that gets my creativity flowing

Like I said, lofty list, huh?  Well, let’s see how I am doing on these goals.  Maybe even set some new ones?

  1. Did I get organized by the end of January?  No, BUT I did build shelving and a new desk for my corner space where I get most of my work done by the end of February.  This project allowed me to tackle another goal, which I will mention in a bit.  For this goal, I built a small corner desk with lower shelving, as well as 2 upper corner floating shelves (no easy feat!). I used a combination of this Farmhouse X Office Desk plan from Handmade Haven and this L shaped double X desk plan from Handmade Haven.  I wanted it to be custom, so it fits this space just right.  The floating shelves are from this Shanty 2 Chic plans that I also made in my dining room reveal here.  Read my thoughts on floating shelves here!  Can I check this off the list?  Absolutely!  I still need to regularly organize and clean this area to maintain it’s effectiveness, but I am much more comfortable and inspired when I work here.  Check out below for the Before/After!
    BEFORE
It’s amazing how I was ever inspired to work in this space!

    AFTER
It’s also amazing how this is even the same space!
  2. Did I build a sideboard to save money from buying a new one?  Weeeell, yes and no.  I didn’t build a sideboard, but I did one better.  I saw this beauty of a sideboard sitting in my in-law’s basement.  I said “watcha doin’ with this beautiful sideboard?  You sellin’ it?” in my sweetest voice possible, mind you.  To which the response was “I don’t know.  I will probably sell it, when I fix it up.”  Done and done.  I asked for it just as it was, and they obliged!  I only had to move it out myself, so my hubby and I grabbed it and hauled it off.  A little stain on top and paint on the bottom, and it looks like it was made to go in our dining room.  Check out another before and after below.  Check out my resources page for the stain I used on this and the floating shelves above it.
BEFORE: This had GREAT bones (and hardware)!
AFTER: What a difference a little stain and paint makes!!

  3. Did I learn something new?  As an educator at heart, learning new things is a desire I have a lot.  Sometimes I have to suppress it to, you know, take care of my family.  But for this particular goal, I knocked it out with goal #1.  When I built my desk, I had to use my circular saw, which meant I had to learn how to use it.  So I did, and it was so easy!!  I have used it a couple times since then also.  What a time saver, and it makes cuts that my mitre saw just isn’t cut out to make (pun intended…I’m here all afternoon, folks)
  4. Did I keep my goal to build 1x a week to tone up?  Not really, but I have made sure to try and keep a toning/cardio regimen for the week.  I usually tone 3-4 days and do cardio 4-5 days.  I run, walk or do interval of the both for my cardio and follow the ToneIt Up program app for their daily toning moves.  I love it.  It keeps track of the days I do it, AND it’s FREE!  Check them out here.
  5. Have I been nice to myself by taking care of me and doing something 1x a week that puts me in my creative space?  I believe I have been good at this, but I haven’t kept track of it.  Since being creative is part of this whole blogging/social media space, I do get to be creative.  However, the flip side of that is I stress myself out from time to time and put pressure on me to perform.  I recently updated my Instagram profile to allow myself more creativity, which has been a lot of fun!  Follow me by clicking on the icon in the side bar!

Well I guess that does it for the goals I set at the beginning of the year!  Since I completed a couple goals, I feel like I should set some new ones, no?  Here are some goals I will make for the remainder of the year (and ones I plan on keeping!)

Goals to keep:

I am definitely going to keep the goal that pushes me to continue to be creative, whether that is part of my blogging, building, or taking up a new craft or hobby.  Making jewelry sounds fun! 😉

One goal that I will change is the building 1x a week to maintaining a workout regimen.  Building once a week can get really pricey!  But I definitely need to keep moving.  My husband and I just signed up to take part in challenges to earn points with our insurance plan, so hopefully that will keep me motivated to move!  I will also continue to do the Tone it up training app and get 20-30 minutes of cardio 4x weekly.

A new goal I will try and pursue is purging by the end of summer break.  This is a great time to have yard sales and sell things on social media.  I plan on emptying our basement of all the JUNK, even if that means donating it to the thrift store.  I can hardly go down there anymore without breaking out in anxious hives.  It’s seriously insane.  And hey, I may even make a few bucks trying to get rid of it.  However, to maintain it, I am also making a secondary goal to either donate old clothes or sell them within a few months of outgrowing them.  I can’t even imagine how many bins this will free up!

Well, I guess that’s it.  I need to keep my goals attainable and time sensitive to ensure the most success!  I think I’m off to a good start!
