No Spend November Challenge-Part 3 (saloon doors, frame, and furniture feet)

If you have seen any of my posts this month, you know that I have challenged myself to a “No Spend November” when it comes to home decor.  In some ways, this has been simple.  I’ve found unused, unloved decor items in our home, and have restored them or changed them to fit my style, usually with just a little bit of paint and elbow grease.  However, it has also been a little difficult.  With the Magnolia Hearth and Hand line at Target launching last week and all things holiday going on sale, I have really had to sit on my hands and ignore the hustle and bustle.  Realistically, it has been very good for me.  It has allowed me to make our house more of a home, and cleared space in the basement.  In my first week, I painted a piece of wood from another project and hung it on the wall in my kitchen.  I also painted some sweet butterflies to go on my daughter’s bedroom wall.  Last week, I took two (never-been-used) pieces, and altered them a bit with paint and found a place in our home to belong.  This week, I have decided to move into the master bedroom.  This room is often forgotten since people rarely see it.  But I see it.  Every. Single. Day.  And I must admit, I don’t love the state it’s in.  Hopefully this week’s projects will allow me to see something special in this room (besides who I share it with!)

Project 5: Saloon Doors

These have been hanging in our basement from the previous owners.  They separated the laundry area from the rest of the unfinished basement.  In other words, they were useless.  I took them down, painted them, and flanked our bed with them, above our end tables.  I left a little space above for another piece, which you will see and read more about below.

Project 6: Frame

In this post, I gave you 5 different ways to transform a frame.  In the case of this frame, it’s purpose will be to even out the asymmetrical aspect of the window behind our headboard.  As you can see, the window stood over the left two-thirds of the headboard.  I couldn’t really put a window treatment over it, as even a valance wouldn’t be symmetrical, and that’s KINDA important to me. Eventually I will put something inside it.  A picture?  A print? A sweet, farmhouse style saying?  I’m not sure yet.  One thing I do know is that it will require a purchase to be made, and I. Will. Resist.

Project 7: Furniture Feet

I found these in a clearance bin at IKEA while on a trip with my husband.  I didn’t know what to do with them, but I did know that these usually cost at least $8 a piece, and I could find some use for them.  So I bought 4 of them, for a TOTAL of $8.  At the time, I was going to put them on a piece of furniture.  But after seeing art being hung on them, I changed my mind.  The nice thing is that I didn’t have to paint them.  All I had to do was (get those annoying stickers off) place them and smile. Done and Done.  :).

I am a happy camper, and my bedroom feels a lot more loved, and I didn’t spend ANY money!!  There is still a long way to go in here, but this is a nice enough change to hold me…for now.

I hope you are inspired to do a “No Spend November” challenge for yourself.  If so, tell me what you are doing! I’d love to hear about it!

If you liked this post, I know you would love these too!
