Ok, why didn’t Joanna Gaines check with me first before launching the Hearth and Hand with Magnolia line this week? Didn’t she know I was challenging myself to a “No Spend November”? I mean, I have had to practice some serious self control, which has NOT been easy because people are posting it EVERYWHERE! Maybe by the time November is over, they will have restocked, and I can shop. Better yet, I will just post a wish list for my most wanted items! Done! Okay, now for my challenge this week. As you know from No Spend November Challenge-Part 1, I am choosing not to spend money on home decor this month, rather upcycle or repurpose my existing collection of decor that is gathering dust in the basement. This week I chose two pieces that were BRAND. NEW that I never put up or used! My excuse? I wanted to put them in the “perfect place” and I just couldn’t commit. The other excuse was that it was just a smidge off of my style. It needed something, I just didn’t take the time to do that something PLUS I found it very difficult to alter something brand spanking new. Well, I guess since both of these items have been in my basement for a year or more, they are’t technically “new” anymore, so I can paint them, right? Well that’s just what I did. Project 3: 3 Hook Towel Holder
This was such a sweet piece that was gifted to me. I loved it right away (I’m a bird fan), but I just didn’t know where to put it. The blue paint from the original was just too blue for my decor style and taste. So, for this project, I used Rustoleum’s Chalk Paint in Linen White to dry brush over the existing blue. I taped off the metal, and brushed just a little bit of paint over the blue. You can actually see a little hue pop through, but it is MUCH better and matches my bath decor now.

Project 4: Wooden shelf
Confession. I bought this for myself “from my husband” last Christmas. I loved the look of it, but I seriously didn’t have a clue what I wanted to do with it. Fast Forward one year, and I am revisiting the beauty of this piece. As you can see, it has great detail, but it’s hard to see through the dark tone of the wood. So what do I do? You guessed it! Paint it with none other than the same Rustoleum chalk paint that I used for Projects 2 (found here) and 3. This time, I used more than one coat, but I only painted the bottom of the shelf, since that’s what I wanted to stand out. The top I left dark wood. I love the contrast of the two.
