This week, I am thrilled to head to my first business conference with an amazing company I joined last year as an educator, advocate, and consultant.  I am traveling by plane to the wonderful state of Minnesota.  It has been a while since I’ve been on a plane (5 years, in fact), and so I am a little rusty in packing a carry on and suitcase.  In researching and reminding myself what I need, I thought I would share my essentials with you.  Summer is coming, and that means travel, travel, travel!  After much thought and consideration, I have compiled a list of my top must haves for traveling on a plane!

Roomy carry on

One thing I do remember about flying is that you are allowed one carry on that doesn’t include your personal item (purse, laptop bag, camera bag).  Score!  I know for sure that I will be taking an extra outfit just in case something happens to my luggage (Oh Lord, pleeeeease let nothing happen to my luggage!) I will also be carrying the following items on my list in this bag, so it needs some room!  My flight is just a few hours, so I won’t be going crazy, but I have been known to pack a wee bit too much.  What can I say, I am always usually prepared!

Here are a few picks that I found on Amazon.  Super cute!

Good book

I am going to be honest, I do the majority of my reading in the morning during my quiet time, and occasionally at night once the kids have gone to bed and my husband isn’t home yet (which is a rare occasion!).  However, the thought of some quiet time alone on a plane or waiting to board or depart sounds perfect to get some good reading in.

Books on my list to read

See Me by Nicholas Sparks
Anxious for Nothing by Max Lucado
Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell

Healthy snack

I won’t be getting a meal on this flight, but I do want to be prepared in case a small bag of pretzels and water just doesn’t do it for me.  I try to be a responsible spender as well as a responsible eater (I think I just made that up), so I will be taking a few healthy snacks to munch on since I will be arriving right around lunchtime.  One of my favorites are Kind bars.  I especially love their full size bars in Dark Chocolate and Sea Salt.  They also have “minis” that are great for littles or a real quick pick-me-up!  Here are some other great options.

Face mist

This is great for any time of day, but especially after a long flight.  This mist wakes me up, hydrates my skin, gives an otherwise dull appearance, a subtle glow.  Just make sure it doesn’t exceed the fluid oz requirement or they will take it from you *gasp!

#2 Plumping Face Mist with Peony
#3 Balancing Face Mist with Charcoal

Hand sanitizer

This is a necessity anywhere I go, but especially in an airport.  Germs are EVERYWHERE! As with the face mist, make sure that it meets the fluid oz requirement for liquids!  Here are some SAFER options for hand sanitizer.  General Rule of thumb, if it has “fragrance” listed in the ingredients, it may not be safe!

Everyone Hand Sanitizer Spray
Elyptol Antimicrobial Hand Sanitizer Gel

Gum

This is a given.  Helps with ear popping on take off and descent and keeps breath fresh! Your neighbor will thank you!  Not a gum fan?  Mints or hard candy will do!

Werther’s Original Caramel Hard Candies

Scarf or jacket

I am generally a cold person (temperature, not personality!) so I usually have something to cover up with wherever I go.  A scarf is nice because it can double as a light blanket, but sometimes I need the warmth of a jacket.  In the case of this trip, I went with a jacket since I would need it for the entire trip, and carrying it saved room in my luggage!
